About five minutes either way. No server, no card, nothing to install. The step people miss is marked in yellow on both lists — it is the difference between a bot that works and a bot that looks fine and records nothing.

Connect a Telegram group

  1. Open Telegram and message @BotFather.
  2. Send /newbot.
  3. Give it a display name — whatever you want your group to see.
  4. Give it a username ending in bot, for example my_group_keeper_bot.
  5. BotFather replies with a token like 1234567890:AAHdq3k…. Copy the whole line, colon included.
  6. Still in BotFather, send /setprivacy, pick your bot, and choose Disable.
  7. Paste the token into KeeperBots. We check it and the privacy setting straight away.
  8. Add the bot to your group as an ordinary member — it does not need to be an admin — then say anything in the group so it can see where it is.

Step 6 is the one everyone misses. While privacy mode is on, Telegram only shows a bot the messages that start with a slash — so it joins, looks healthy, and logs almost nothing.

Connect a Discord server

  1. Open discord.com/developers/applications.
  2. Press New Application and give it a name.
  3. Open the Bot tab on the left.
  4. Scroll to Privileged Gateway Intents, switch on MESSAGE CONTENT INTENT, and press Save Changes.
  5. Press Reset Token, confirm, and copy the token — Discord shows it once and never again.
  6. Paste the token into KeeperBots. We check it and the intent straight away.
  7. We hand you an invite link that already asks for exactly what the bot needs. Open it, pick your server, authorise it.
  8. Say anything in a channel the bot can see.

Step 4 is the one everyone misses. Without the Message Content intent every message reaches the bot blank. Our invite link also asks for the slash-command scope, which is the other thing people leave out.

What you'll see when it works

  • The connect page names your bot back to you — it asked the platform, it isn't repeating what you typed.
  • The permission check passes. You cannot get past it if it doesn't.
  • It finds your group or server by itself and shows its real name. You are never asked for an ID.
  • Your bot's page starts counting messages within a minute or two.
  • After about 20 messages it posts a first look in the chat — you don't wait until tonight to find out it works.
  • Then a digest every night at your time, and /summary, /ask and /stats whenever anyone wants them.

If something isn't right

  • The bot doesn't reply at allCheck it is still a member of the group or server, then send /ping. On Telegram a bot can only be added by someone who can add members; if you restricted it to one group, it answers only there.
  • It replies to commands but the summaries are empty or very thinThis is privacy mode on Telegram, or the Message Content intent on Discord. Turn it on as described above — and on Telegram, if the bot was already in the group when you changed it, remove it and add it again. It keeps the old setting until you do.
  • Discord: nothing is logged at allOpen your app at discord.com/developers, Bot tab, Privileged Gateway Intents, switch on MESSAGE CONTENT INTENT and press Save Changes. Until that is on, every message reaches the bot blank.
  • Nothing was posted last nightCheck the time, timezone and voice on your bot's page — Quiet posts nothing at night by design. A quiet day makes a short digest, and the bot can only summarise what was said after it joined: there is no way for any bot to read a group's past messages.
  • The summary lands in the wrong topic or channelSend /here in the topic or channel you want it in. It moves the nightly digest there; group admins only.
  • Someone doesn't want to be in itAnyone can send /optout, in the group or privately. From that moment they are never named and their messages are never sent to the model. /optin reverses it.

Make a bot, copy the token

On Telegram that is /newbot in @BotFather. On Discord it is a new app in the developer portal. Either way you copy one token and paste it here — and we check it is real before anything is created.

One setting decides whether any of this works: privacy mode Disabled on Telegram, the Message Content intent on for Discord. We check it rather than take your word for it, then find your group or server ourselves — you never hunt down an ID.
